Medias Affect On Woman

The media creates many different problems with woman and their self esteem. The tabloids only promote skinny girls. They do not show realistic woman and their beauty. Some problems caused by this are eating disorders, and health issues.

Eating disorders are growing more and more. Girls now days they have to be anorexic in order to be accepted. Disorders such as bulimia and anorexia can really affect some one’s life and one can end up with bad health problems.

These eating disorders can make a person sick. In some cases they have resulted in deaths due to lack of nutrients. In Not Just Pictures by Susan Bordo she says “is it any wonder that despite media attention to the dangers of starvation dieting and habitual vomiting eating disorders have spread throughout the culture?” I think she says this trying to say the affect media has on woman. My opposition in this is I do not think women and even young girls should be taught to be like this in order for them to think they are beautiful.

In conclusion my question is why does the media do this? Who is it affecting most? Will anyone speak up? The media needs to show all different types of woman.

Media

Media targets everyone especially women . The media has a thousand tricks to get you to buy their vision.

First the media targets men and women’s home lives and finally they target women’s bodies themselves

Media targets men with these ridiculous beer ads which say…

In our society today, it is almsot impossible to get away from the media and its constant barrage of images and ideas. Because of that, it is important that we, as consumers, are aware of possible negative consequences. That said, I don’t think there is anything inherently wrong with a beautiful woman or a good looking man being used to sell stuff. I do think the context in which they are doing this is important. I am not for censorship. I am for an imformed public that can defend themselves. Your post focuses on the negative impact of the media on women. What about men? Are they negatively affected?

I personally think that it just depends on the person and how easily persuaded they are.
